# Geckoboard alternatives for KPI screens without a data team (2026)

The screen by the door shows this week's numbers: tickets open, revenue so far, calls answered. Geckoboard is a common way to put it there. Then the team wants a third dashboard, a second editor, or the source rows behind a number that looks off, and the plan says upgrade.

A team KPI screen has a different job from an analysis tool. It needs to be readable from across the room, refresh on its own, and cost little per viewer. When a number on it is wrong, someone needs to find out why before the next standup.

This guide compares 7 alternatives for teams without a data person, using each vendor's official pricing and help pages as of October 28, 2026.

## What does Geckoboard cost in 2026?

Geckoboard has no free plan, and it offers a 14-day trial. Prices are per account, not per seat.

| Plan | Yearly billing | Monthly billing | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79/mo | $99/mo | 2 dashboards, 1 editor, 1 screen |
| Performance | $319/mo | $399/mo | 20 dashboards, 3 editors, 5 screens |

Viewers are unlimited on every plan, and more than 90 integrations plus Google Sheets and Excel come with all of them. On Essentials, each extra dashboard is $24 a month and each extra editor $20 a month, billed yearly.

Tracing a number is the gap. Drilldown and Source data, which show the records behind a number, start on Performance and work only for integrations that support source data, such as Zendesk, Aircall and HubSpot. Geckoboard doesn't document it for spreadsheets, which is where many teams keep the numbers that need the most explaining.

## What should you compare for a team screen?

- **Who edits.** If 3 people maintain the screens, per-editor limits matter more than per-viewer prices.
- **How it refreshes.** A screen that only changes when someone uploads a file is a weekly screen, not a live one. Both are fine if you choose on purpose.
- **Where the data lives.** Connectors for your help desk or CRM, or a spreadsheet you update by hand.
- **How you check a number.** When the screen says 38 open tickets and the help desk says 41, can someone see which rows were counted?

## How do the 7 alternatives compare?

Prices are the lowest paid plan billed yearly, from each official pricing page as of October 28, 2026.

| Option | Lowest paid plan | Free plan | Trace a number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Klipfolio Klips | Base $120/mo | No, 14-day trial | Table drill down |
| Databox | Team Core $199/mo to share | Yes, 1 user | Raw data drill-down |
| Data Studio | Pro $9/user/project/mo | Yes | Show underlying data |
| Google Sheets | Workspace $7/user/mo | Yes | See cell details (pivots) |
| Grafana Cloud | Pro $19/mo plus usage | Yes, 3 active users | Inspect, Data tab |
| Zoho Analytics | Basic $24/mo | Yes, 2 users | View Underlying Data |
| Power BI | Pro $14/user/mo | No sharing on free | Show as a table |

## For a growing team screen: Klipfolio Klips or Databox

**Klipfolio Klips** is priced per account with unlimited users. Base is $120 a month billed yearly ($140 monthly) for 3 dashboards with a 4-hour refresh, and the 14-day trial needs no card and doesn't convert on its own. It connects to more than 130 services, takes Excel, CSV, JSON and XML uploads up to 10 MB, and refreshes files from Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive and SharePoint. Two things to know: Published Links, which let people without an account or a TV show a dashboard, start on Grow at $190 a month billed yearly, and Klips are built with formulas in an editor, which takes some learning. Drill down works in table components, set up by the person who builds the Klip.

**Databox** has a free plan for 1 user, 3 data sources and 1 dashboard, but sharing by link, TV or embed starts on Team Core at $199 a month billed yearly for 3 users and 10 data sources. Google Sheets and Excel need Analyst or higher. For metrics built from datasets, Raw data drill-down shows the row-level data, though Databox doesn't say which plans include it today. Our [Databox alternatives](/resources/databox-alternatives) guide covers its plans in detail.

## Free starting points: Data Studio, Google Sheets, Grafana Cloud

**Data Studio** (Google renamed Looker Studio back to Data Studio in April 2026) is free for creators and viewers, and Pro is $9 per user per project per month for editors only. It reads one worksheet per Google Sheets data source and takes Excel and CSV uploads up to 100 MB. Uploaded files don't refresh on their own, so a screen built on them changes when someone uploads again. Show underlying data shows the summary table a chart used, not the original rows.

**Google Sheets** works with any Google Account, and Workspace Business Starter is $7 per user per month with a yearly commitment. A full-screen sheet with a few charts is a perfectly good office screen. In a pivot table, See cell details opens the source rows behind a value in a new sheet. For other formulas, you follow the ranges by hand.

**Grafana Cloud** is free forever for up to 3 active users a month, with no card. Pro is a $19 monthly platform fee plus usage, with 3 active users included and more from $8 each. Kiosk mode shows a dashboard full screen on a TV, and the Inspect panel's Data tab shows the data a panel received and downloads it as CSV. Grafana is built for engineers: reading a private Google Sheet means creating a Google Cloud service account and a JSON key, while the simpler API key works only for public sheets.

## When you need analysis behind the screen: Zoho Analytics or Power BI

**Zoho Analytics** has a Free plan for 2 users and 10,000 rows. Basic is $24 a month billed yearly ($30 monthly) for 2 users and 500,000 rows, with extra users at $6.40 a month billed yearly ($8 monthly) and view-only users sold in packs of 25. It schedules imports from files, URL feeds and cloud drives. Click a data point and View Underlying Data opens the rows behind it, if the share includes that permission.

**Power BI** Pro is $14 per user per month billed yearly, and a free account can't share. Viewers need a paid seat too unless your company buys a large capacity. Show data point as a table shows the data behind a value, but not when the value is a measure, and not on card or KPI visuals, which are what a KPI screen is mostly made of.

## Where does Every Number fit?

Every Number, which publishes this guide, is not a live TV dashboard. It updates when you upload the next export, so it suits a weekly screen or a Monday review rather than a number that changes every few minutes.

What it adds is the check. You upload the export you already download (Excel or CSV, up to 10 MB), a database counts every number, and every number opens its receipt: the definition, the rows it used, and the rows it left out, such as test accounts or a totals row. Read-only share links, with an optional end date, let you put the result on a shared screen.

Drop a file at [everynumber.app/try](/try) with no account and see it in seconds. Teams that sign up are free for 30 days, with no card. If you'd rather have it built, the [$99 pilot](/pilot) delivers a dashboard in 5 business days.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Geckoboard have a free plan?

No. It offers a 14-day trial, and the lowest plan, Essentials, is $79 a month billed yearly or $99 billed monthly.

### What is the cheapest Geckoboard alternative for a TV screen?

Grafana Cloud is free for up to 3 active users and has a kiosk mode for TVs, but it's built for engineers. For a non-technical team, a full-screen Google Sheet or a Data Studio report shared by link costs nothing and needs no setup beyond the sheet.

### Which alternative lets non-technical people build the screen?

Geckoboard, Databox and Data Studio are designed for that. Klipfolio Klips gives you more control but uses formulas in an editor. Grafana and Power BI expect someone comfortable with data tools.

### Can I see the rows behind a number on a KPI screen?

Sometimes. Zoho Analytics shows them with View Underlying Data, Google Sheets does it for pivot tables, and Geckoboard and Databox do it for some data sources on higher plans. Data Studio and Grafana show the summarized data a chart received. In Every Number, every number lists the rows it used and left out.
