Short answer

Powerdrill Bloom is an AI data analysis workspace with a Free plan and Pro at $19.90 a month. It takes Excel, CSV and PDF files and cites sources with Insight Trail. Julius AI, ChatGPT, Claude and Hex Threads run code on your file and let you review it in different ways. Every Number's AI never writes a number.

Upload a CSV to an AI analyst and you get charts, a summary and a few headline numbers. Before one goes in a report, you need to know what the tool did to your file, and whether it would do it again.

Comparing Powerdrill with other AI analysts comes down to what each tool does with your file, what it costs, and how you check a number before you share it. This guide covers Powerdrill Bloom and 5 alternatives, using only official vendor pages as of October 30, 2026.

What is Powerdrill today, and what does it cost?

Powerdrill's site now leads with Powerdrill Bloom, which it calls an AI data analysis workspace with memory. Its FAQ describes a canvas where a team of AI data agents cleans, analyzes and charts your data, then turns spreadsheets into insights and presentations without code.

The Free plan takes Excel, CSV, PDF and document files. Workspaces, added in June 2026, keep a file across chats. Scheduled Agent, added in August 2026, reruns an analysis you describe on a schedule and writes a report into your workspace. The site also links to Powerdrill Chat, a separate app; this guide covers Bloom.

Prices from Powerdrill's pricing page as of October 30, 2026, in US dollars:

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingCredits
Free$0$01,000 a day
Pro$19.90/mo$199/yr1,000/day + 5,000/mo
Plus$39.90/mo$399/yr1,000/day + 11,000/mo
Premium$199.90/mo$1,990/yr1,000/day + 60,000/mo
Team Pro$19.90/seat/mo$199/seat/yrShared team credits

Billed yearly, the page shows a 20% first-year discount: $159.20 for Pro, then $199 a year. Powerdrill's site says it is SOC 2 Type 2 certified.

How Bloom traces an insight

Insight Trail, added in January 2026, traces each AI insight back to its source file or web page with a citation trail, and you turn it on with one click. When you share a canvas, others can see your insights and slides and keep exploring, but not the original dataset.

Powerdrill's Vibe Data Analysis page says the AI writes the logic, queries and calculations in the background, and the Bloom pages we checked don't say whether you can open that code. A January 2025 Powerdrill guide says it displays the Python code and data sources behind an analysis, so look for that view before you rely on it.

What should you check before an AI analyst's number goes in a report?

An AI analyst writes code for your question, runs it on your rows, and reports the result. Before you share it, check 3 things.

  • The code. It shows the rule: which column was added up, which rows were dropped, how dates were read.
  • The rows. A rule can look right while the file holds surprises, such as repeated orders or a totals row.
  • The rerun. Saved code run on the same file gives the same result. A fresh question gets fresh code, which you read again.

A worked example

Here's a hypothetical. Say you upload orders.csv, 2,318 rows, and ask for September revenue. The analyst answers $71,940 and shows its code: drop rows where status is cancelled, then add up total.

Reading the code shows a choice. Only cancelled rows are dropped, so refunded orders still count. Your finance team may count revenue differently.

The rows show what the code can't. The filter kept 2,277 rows, including 26 refunds worth $2,135. Those rows hold only 2,263 order IDs, because the export lists 14 orders twice, and the extra copies add $1,190. Leave out the refunds and the repeats, and revenue is $68,615.

Ask for code that leaves both out, and save it with the report. Rerun it on the same file and you get $68,615 every time; next month, run it on the new export and the rule stays the same. A fresh question in a new chat means new code to read. Why dashboard numbers don't match covers more causes of gaps like these.

How do the alternatives compare?

Starting prices are from official pages as of October 30, 2026, in US dollars, at the monthly rate where both are listed. "Check a number" is what each vendor's docs say you can review.

Which alternative fits your file?

Julius AI: when you want to read the code

Julius writes and runs Python or R in a secure cloud container. Each step shows in the chat, such as Generated code, and you can expand it to read the code, copy it, and see its output. It takes CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet and other files. Its FAQ sets no size limit beyond what fits in sandbox memory, and the pricing page lists 16 GB of RAM on Plus and 32 GB on Pro.

Plus is $20 a month, or $16 a month billed annually, with 2,000 credits a month. Pro is $45 ($37 billed annually), and Business is $450 ($375 billed annually) for up to 50 team members. Files last up to 1 hour of inactivity on the free tier and 7 days on paid plans.

ChatGPT: if your team already pays for it

ChatGPT analyzes spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx and .csv), PDFs and text files. For some tasks it writes and runs Python in a Jupyter notebook. OpenAI's help article says to review the generated code, outputs and assumptions before relying on a result, and to ask ChatGPT to show or adjust the method when that matters.

CSV files and spreadsheets can be about 50 MB, depending on row size. Uploads work on Free and paid plans, but Free is limited to 3 file uploads a day. Plus is $20 a month, billed monthly.

Claude: code execution on every plan

Code execution and file creation is on every Claude plan, including Free, and on by default for Free, Pro and Max. Claude writes and runs code, such as Python, in an isolated sandbox. You can upload CSV, TSV and other files for analysis; XLSX uploads need the feature turned on, and files can be up to 30 MB each.

Anthropic's help article says Claude summarizes its actions as it works and lets you review and audit them, and that you may need to review and refine its output. Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front).

Hex Threads: when the file meets a warehouse

Threads answers questions from semantic models and warehouse tables. If your workspace allows file uploads, you can add a CSV for the agent to query or join with warehouse data. The agent writes and runs SQL and shows its thinking and tool calls, which you can expand after it answers. Each Thread is backed by a project whose Notebook view, open to Editors and above, shows the underlying logic.

Threads is on all plans with monthly per-seat credits, and asking takes the Explorer role or higher. Community is free with a Hex agent trial, and Professional is $36 per Editor a month. Our Basedash alternatives guide covers Hex in more depth.

Where does Every Number fit?

Every Number, which publishes this guide, is not an AI analyst, and its AI never writes or calculates a number. You upload an export (Excel or CSV, up to 10 MB). Fixed rules, not AI, lay out the first screen from your columns, and a database counts every number, so the same file gives the same number. The AI only suggests metrics from your column names, column types and goal. It never sees your rows.

Every number opens its receipt: the definition, the filters, the rows used, the rows left out with the reason, the source file, and the date the data runs through. In the example above, a revenue definition that leaves out refunds would list the 26 refunded orders among its left-out rows. Try it at everynumber.app/try with your own file and no account; you get a dashboard in seconds, deleted after 24 hours unless you save it. Teams that sign up are free for 30 days with no card. Planned prices are Solo $29 a month and Team $99 for up to 5 people, and nothing is billed yet. The $99 pilot delivers a dashboard built by a person in 5 business days.

It's the wrong choice when you want to ask a file anything: it won't answer open-ended questions, and the analysts above will. It has no live connectors and doesn't pull data on a schedule; you upload exports, and the export guides cover 38 tools. It's also new (open to everyone since October 25, 2026), with no customers to point to and no certifications such as SOC 2.

Frequently asked questions

Is Powerdrill free?

Yes. Powerdrill Bloom's Free plan is $0, with 1,000 credits that refresh daily, uploads of Excel, CSV, PDF and document files, and 1 scheduled task. As of October 30, 2026, Pro is $19.90 a month, or $159.20 for the first year billed yearly, then $199 a year.

Does Powerdrill show the code behind an answer?

Bloom's pages describe Insight Trail citations but don't say whether you can open the code its agents ran. A January 2025 Powerdrill guide says it displays the Python code and data sources used, so check with your own file.

Which AI analysts show the code they ran?

Per their docs, Julius shows each code step to read and copy, and ChatGPT asks you to review the code it generated. Hex shows tool calls and a notebook, and Claude summarizes its actions for you to review. Every Number shows a receipt with rows instead.

Will the same file give the same answer next time?

Saved code run on the same file gives the same result, but a new question in a new chat means new code. The docs we read describe how to see what ran, not whether a rerun matches. In Every Number, a database counts every number, so the same file gives the same number.

How big a file can I upload?

ChatGPT takes CSV files and spreadsheets of about 50 MB, depending on row size, and Claude's code execution allows 30 MB per file. Julius sets no limit beyond what fits in sandbox memory. Every Number takes Excel or CSV up to 10 MB. The Powerdrill pages we checked don't state a limit.
